SCREAM CLUB, the Electro Sex Hop Hip Pop Punk Rock Rap Duo from Olympia, WA, are two freaky white rapper chicks stopping hearts everywhere. Cindy Wonderful and Sarah Adorable, two gaysymmetrical superheroes, have come to spread the message of fun to queerions, hip hoppers, and rockers all over the world. These queer icons write love songs, political jams, and party songs all with tight lyrics and killer hooks. They are avant garde glam rock for the 21st century.
How did the band get together?
Cindy: I was doing solo performances, but was pretty unhappy with it, especially after having been in so many bands. I missed the energy and momentum that comes with having another person or other people to feed off of. I asked Sarah to do it with me and, to my surprise, she agreed.
Sarah: Yeah, Cindy asked me to perform with her. I had played music before but never in a band, but i was totally into it. I already loved the music she was making solo, and we came up with a bunch of dance moves for our performances, then started collaborating on music, and the rest is history.
What inspired you to start making music?
C: When I was young, I just thought rock stars were the coolest people on the planet. I felt like music was a big escape for me. I hated school, and I felt like music was important. Like it could save the world. I guess I was idealistic. But I do feel like it is important. I think music can affect lost teens way more then school, or politicians, or even parents sometimes.
S: I like making music cause it's a creative outlet, it allows you to express yourself in a empowering way, and also cause it's something that can be shared with other people. I love all kinds of music and always have and connecting with the music of other people has always been something to live for. I hope that people can connect to the music we make.
Can you tell me a little about your musical influences?
C: Everything, Peaches, LL Cool J, Planning to Rock, Biggie Smalls, Kevin Blechdom, Dahlia, 50 Cent, Nicky Click, Amerie, Jay Z, Spice Girls, my friends, family, the state of the world, everything.
S: I love every genre of music. I'm a top 40 junkie for sure, but I also can't stand the messages in mainstream hip hop, it's so woman-hating. But the beats are fabulous. I also love the Smiths, I am the World Trade Center, Mew, Peaches, Kevin Blechdom, Romanteek, Joey Casio, Ben Adorable, I really could go on and on. I love it all.
Who or what inspires you the most?
C: I don't know. Sometimes pain. Sometimes pleasure, its always changing. I like to see people I know succeeding. Makes me feel like some magic will rub off on me.
S: Passionate people inspire me the most. Those passionate about music, about art, about feminism, about changing the world, about love, about anything really. For me, it's not so much what you are passionate about but the passion itself. I can feed off that forever.
